What is a catch?
The leader is the outermost part of your line and the direct contact with the fly. This makes it a very important part of your fishing. A leader is the part of the line that is exposed to the most pressure during the fight with the fish, so it must be able to handle this and present the fly properly and nicely to the fish. One type of leader will not be able to attract all fish species, because fish are attracted to different things.
Therefore, it is important that you choose the right type for your particular fishing. At fluer.dk you can find, among other things, fly lines that have been developed specifically for mackerel fishing, but also fly lines for flatfish and herring. By choosing the right type of fly line, you achieve the optimal presentation of the fly, and at the same time you have the strength to fight the fish.
Different types of traps
Broadly speaking, there are two types of lines: nylon and poly lines. Both are suitable for coastal fishing.
Nylon leader does not sink very much, which is why it is perfect when you want to fish high and light in the water. If, on the other hand, you want to fish a little lower in the water, or there are waves, a poly leader is the right choice. The poly type stretches well and sinks somewhat more than a nylon one. Furthermore, the poly leader is equipped with a small loop at the tip, in which you can tie your leader tip. However, the tip wears out constantly and gets shorter and shorter every time the fly is changed.
The length of the leader varies depending on the type of fishing. It is often as long as the fishing rod or perhaps a little longer, around 3-3.5 meters. If you want to fish with large flies, a shorter leader is recommended, for example for pike fishing.
Mackerel forage
At fluer.dk we have a large selection of mackerel lures, because there is almost nothing more entertaining than fishing for mackerel. Mackerel are like little rockets in the water and therefore colorful lures are necessary to be able to lure the fast fish. We have mackerel lures in many different sizes, materials and colors, all of which are sure to lure the mackerel. See all our mackerel lures here .
Herring forage
For herring fishing trips, a wide range of lures have been developed specifically for catching herring. With the right herring lures, you may even be lucky enough to fill your herring lure completely on all hooks. Some lures for herring can hold up to 8 herring at once. When you want to catch herring, it is a good idea to bring several different types of herring lures. Herring are picky and will therefore be attracted to lures with real skin one day, but to beautiful feathers the next. Buy herring lures here .
Flatfishing tackle
As the name suggests, flatfish lures are used to catch flatfish, such as turbot, plaice and flounder. You can choose from many different types of flatfish lures, but each of them has some common features: They consist of 2-3 single hooks and some enticing objects, such as colorful feathers, glitter or beads. Tie your own fringe
As an angler, it can also be fun to try making your own fishing line. This gives you plenty of opportunity to test what works best on different types of fish. By tying your own fishing lines, you can also test the durability of different fishing lines. If you are ready to make your own fishing lines, then you can give this a try.
Cleaning of fishing lines and other fishing gear
Fly line and leader get dirty with use and therefore must of course be cleaned regularly. If the line and leader are not cleaned, they cannot be cast optimally, as there will be resistance on the line when it has to cut through the air. Both the leader and the line can be cleaned in a tub of water with a little washing-up liquid and wiped with a cloth. However, there are many smarter solutions that can be beneficially invested in if you fish a lot. Remember never to reel in the line immediately after cleaning, as it is important that it is allowed to dry completely.

All fishing gear should of course be cleaned to maintain it. Cleaning fly fishing gear is especially important because it is used in salt water. An important rule to remember is to always only use cold or lukewarm water for cleaning. If you live in an area with a lot of lime in the water, you can advantageously boil the water and let it cool.
The flies are cleaned like the others, by rinsing them under the tap and laying them out to dry on a tea towel. The flies are particularly vulnerable - the material is destroyed and the hooks rust. A good tip is to have a small extra fly box with you for the wet flies you use during the fishing trip. This way you avoid the other flies getting damaged.
People often worry most about the lines when they think about cleaning. However, it can extend the life of your rod considerably if you rinse it under the tap after use and dry it with a cloth. Salt water can quickly destroy the rod, and the eyes in particular can be very damaged. It is recommended to give the rod a little silicone a couple of times a year - pay special attention to the joints
The same applies to the wheel. It is extremely important that you clean your wheel after use and especially after use in salt water. As with the rod, the wheel should be rinsed under the tap and can be left to dry on a tea towel until the next day. Always remember to release the brake after use. A couple of times a year the wheel should be disassembled and given a little oil.
