If you are a pike fisherman, then a jerkbait rod is almost a must have. The rods are basicallyshort and stiff, as you need to be able to bring the jerkbait to life by making strokes with the rod. Jerkbait fishing for pike can be extremely effective, as a jerkbait should simulate an injured fish, and pike can very rarely do that! The technique
The technique, like so much else, requires practice before you can master it. Jerkbait fishing is a bit like fly fishing , as your patience is often tested on the first few trips. A good tip is to hold the rod so that the trigger is between your ring and little fingers and the reel is in the palm of your hand. This helps you achieve good balance and makes the fishing method more effortless and natural.

The gear

As mentioned above, rods of around 6 feet are typically used with a multi-reel. The rods are stiff, as you don't get the same hitting effect with a soft rod. You often fish with a relatively thick braided line, as the line must be able to withstand the beating it gets from the hits. The bait is jerkbaits, which are typically around 10 cm and weigh between 50-100 grams. Most jerkbaits are floating/suspending, and they typically go down to a depth of around 1-1.5 meters.
