Surfcasting reels are specially designed fixed-spool reels for long casts from the beach or pier. In Denmark, surfcasting reels are used mainly for fishing for flatfish such as flounder, plaice and bream, but also for sea trout , cod and garfish . For flatfish and garfish on calm days, standard reels are sufficient. If you want to optimize the casting distance on open beaches, you should choose a long cast reel . For heavy fishing in windy weather and for larger species such as cod or sea trout , powerful surfcasting reels from e.g. Penn or Daiwa are the obvious choice.
Surfcasting can be a fun activity with kids, especially when the target is flatfish . Choose a lighter surfcasting reel so the kids can participate without the equipment becoming too heavy. This allows them to experience the joy of catching fish right from the beach.
