Usually the cod are right at the bottom, and it is therefore important to hit the bottom with your jigging wheel.As is often the case, tour boats position themselves so that there is a fishing side and a casting side. If you fish on the fishing side, the boat will drift, and the current will take your fishing rod and carry it further and further away from the boat, which causes the fishing rod to lift off the bottom. Pike fishing is a common fishing technique on a boat. Anyone can join in, as it is one of the simplest forms of fishing. When you pike fish, you need a pike rod and a reel. It can be either a multi-reel or a pike reel. The rod is usually 6-8 feet long and is extra strong, so it can withstand one or more cod right down to the bottom of the sea. The rods are available in several strengths, which refers to how heavy the fish is that the rod can handle. The strength also says something about how you feel the fish when there is a bite.

If you choose to use a multi-reel or a jigging reel, the spool is horizontal and the line is applied from side to side. This is the opposite of a fixed spool reel, which is vertical, where the line is applied up and down. A multi-reel or jigging reel is often a lot more powerful than a fixed spool reel and is therefore more suitable for heavier jigging fishing. Multi-reels and jigging reels are available in different sizes and in left- and right-handed versions, with or without a line counter and with different gear ratios. Gear ratios refer to how many turns you have to make to get the line back in. A line counter is useful if you are out with a cutter or sailing yourself and want to know at what depth the fish are.
