Typically you fish with specimen rods in lakes and fish for carp, pike, zander, perch and sturgeon.Specimen rods are intended for typical catch and release, where you release the fish so that other fishermen have the opportunity to catch the fish. This usually also applies to fishing in Put and Take lakes. Specimen fishing requires a lot of attention, and this requires the right equipment. This includes specimen rods. You must be willing to move in relation to the fish and most specimen fishermen usually reach a point where they have to decide how much time and energy they want to put into the hobby. When you move location, you need to familiarize yourself with the lake and its conditions. It may be a good idea to talk to others who have fished the lake before so that you can use their experience.

Before you start fishing, it is a good idea to spread out your fishing hours so that you can gain insight into whether there are periods when the fish are more active than others. Many people use a logbook so that it can be easier to get an overview of the activity in the lake. Once you have gained an understanding of the lake and its activity, it is a good idea to target your fishing so that you get the most out of it. Some choose to fish for two hours during the day and others fish intensively for 2-3 weeks every night during the period when there has been evidence of activity.
One of the most important things about specimen fishing is to take the time to familiarize yourself with the water you are fishing in and also to be adaptable to it. Also to have the right equipment such as a specimen rod. So spend time at the water you are fishing in and don't just focus on the fishing itself.
