Guide to choosing a fly kit
If you are going to get a new fly set, there are several factors that you need to consider. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced angler, it is a great idea to think about the following:
- Where should you use your fly kit?
- How much should the fly kit cost?
- What line should be on the fly kit?
- What fish will you primarily catch with the fly kit?
At Fluer.dk we would like to help you get started with choosing a fly kit, regardless of whether you are a beginner or a professional angler looking for new gear. We have therefore made a short guide for you below. If you have any questions or would like guidance, you are always welcome to contact us. You can reach us by email, phone or visit us in our physical store in Vejle - Grejshoppen.
Fly fishing set for the coast
On the coast, a good all-around set is a 9'foot fly rod in class 6-8. Those who want to fish in windy weather on the coast should go for a short and stiff rod, for example an 8'foot class 7, but this is not a set for beginners. The line should be floating or slightly sinking (intermediate).

Fly set for Put & Take lakes
In the Danish put & take lakes you can use many different rods, both short rods in light classes, and longer rods in high classes. Many put & take lakes have fish of up to 10 kg and therefore a light rod class 4 is often too soft and fragile. A good all-around rod for put & take is typically a 9'foot class 5-6. The line should be floating as a beginner, but it is also good to fish with a sinking line.

Fly fishing set for rivers
In Denmark, there are a wide range of rivers of various sizes that contain many different species of fish.
Here you can fish with everything from light one-handed rods for brown trout and roach, to large two-handed rods for salmon and sea trout.
A fly set for rivers is therefore very dependent on which river and which fish you want to catch.
We would therefore encourage you to contact customer service to find the fly set that is right for you.

Fly set for Pike in lakes and marshes
The pike is a big fish and requires a solid rod, typically a 9 or 10' class 7-9 is good for the fierce Danish crocodiles. The rod should be solid and preferably have a fight knob at the bottom, so you can use both hands when there is a 10 kg pike at the other end.
Depending on the depth, the line for this fishing should be either floating in shallow water, intermediate at 3-6 meters, and sinking if it is deeper than 6 meters where you want to fish.
We hope you now have an idea of what to look for when choosing a fly kit. There are many options, but we are ready in customer service to help you buy the right fly kit! So don't hesitate to contact us! We would be more than happy to help you find the right kit.
