Choose fishing as a hobby
Are you drawn to fresh air, a view of the water and perhaps a delicious fish to take home for dinner? Fishing is a great hobby that you can continue to explore. Read more about fishing as a hobby, and learn about fishing spots and equipment. But beware - fishing can become a highly addictive hobby and a permanent part of your lifestyle .
Where are you going?
There are many options when it comes to choosing a good place to fish. Depending on the type of fishing and the fish you want to catch, there can be a big difference between fishing by a stream and by the coast. We guide you to where you can cast your line with these four general fishing spots in Denmark :
-
Put & Take
-
Oh
-
Coast
-
On the pier
In a Put & Take lake there can be a good chance of taking home a fish - and especially a rainbow trout, which is most often released. There are now quite a few Put & Take lakes, and it can be a good place to start if you are a beginner. It does not require much equipment to join, and as I said, there are often good opportunities to catch something. On the other hand, you share the lake with others, and it may not be as calm as at other fishing spots. If you choose to fish in a Put & Take lake, remember to check whether the lake is clean and that fish are released regularly.
If you are into more nature and tranquility - but still want a good chance of catching fish - then river fishing may be something for you. There are many rivers in Denmark, and again you don't need such advanced equipment. However, you will need more robust fishing equipment if you are going for the big and heavy fish. When fishing in a river, you may be lucky enough to catch a sea trout. If you are specifically going for sea trout fishing, you can use spinners, wobblers or blinkers , depending on whether you are casting downstream or upstream, and what time of day you are fishing. Always remember to have your fishing license with you and check in advance where you are allowed to fish if you don't have land that borders a river yourself.
Coastal fishing offers a wide variety of fish. Here you can also catch sea trout and fish such as flatfish, cod and garfish in the summer season. It can be difficult to get a bite in the winter months, so if you want the best conditions, you may be most successful in the spring months and early autumn months. If you want to try to get one of the elongated garfish on your dinner plate, you need to be ready in the spring, when the garfish come in a school. In the autumn you can have success fishing for cod - and especially if you use wobblers or flashes, which resemble the cod's favorite food, crayfish. Finally, you can also try your hand at fishing from a pier. The advantage of fishing from the pier is that you can reach deeper water compared to fishing from the shore, and that you don't have to cast as far. At the pier, you can fish for flatfish, cod and saithe. Cod are particularly attracted to strong colors, so try using lures or jigs in colors such as red, orange or silver. When fishing from the pier, you need heavier fishing equipment, as you use lead weights. In addition, you can sometimes catch two fish at once, and this naturally requires good quality equipment that can withstand several kilos.
Fishing in good company
Part of the great experience of fishing can be good company. It can be nice to have a community and someone to share the experiences with. Fishing can be fun for all ages - so maybe your children should go on the next fishing trip with you? In addition to passing on your knowledge, your child can also learn how to take care of nature. There are also many who go alone and greatly enjoy the silence and tranquility when they fish. Whether you are going alone or in the company of others, it is important to remember that fish can be scared away by noises and sudden movements.
