To extend the life of your line and backing, it is good to have a reel that allows the lines to 'breathe'. When the reel allows air around the lines, they can dry more easily, which extends their life.
Knot tips
The choice of knot is not always obvious. We will therefore present some suggestions for which knots are good to use for your fly fishing. Because remember – no chain is stronger than its weakest link.
Every knot will, to varying degrees, reduce the breaking strength of the line. Especially if the knot has been tightened with a violent jerk when it was tied. It is therefore always important to tighten the knot with caution, paying attention to the correct position of all turns. In addition, you should always remember to moisten the knot before finally tightening it. This reduces friction and reduces the risk of the different turns cutting into each other during tightening.
The knot, called Blood Bright, is a non-slip loop knot. Make the loop long enough for the fly wheel to pass through the loop when a fly line is later attached. The knot can be used on both monofilament and spun lines and is incredibly easy to make. Fold the line in half, then make an overhand knot and make another one, making a total of two overhand knots. Moisten the knot and tighten slowly.
If you prefer to make a loop on the spun backing using a splicing needle, this is also an option. This solution gives a completely smooth and very strong loop, which after it has been tightened can be further secured with a little Aqua-Seal or soft superglue. The instructions for this method are included with the needle when you purchase it. Here it is important to keep the knot as small as possible.

Another good and secure knot for tying the backing on the fly reel and the spinning line on the spool shaft is the 'Spool Shaft Knot'. To ensure that the entire line cannot slide around on the spool itself under extreme load, it is a good idea to tape the first turn with regular clear tape. This will ensure that your backing is firmly in place.
