In early spring, when the air and water temperatures start to rise, the bristle worms leave their holes and begin to swarm on the water surface. Here, the hungry sea trout can go completely crazy when the first bristle worms start to swarm in March. Sea trout can therefore be an easy catch with bristle worms at the front of the leader. Therefore, it can be a great advantage to have a few bristle worm imitations ready in the fly box.

Catch sea trout on the coast in spring with bristle worms
Things are happening on the coasts in March. The air temperature is still a little lower than the water temperature, but the sun is slowly starting to gain strength, and you can feel it underwater. All the small animals come alive for action. During this period, the kelp fleas ensure the survival of the genus, and the bristle worms come out of their holes.
When the sea and air temperatures start to rise slightly, the sea trout are back in the sea, where they are filling their bellies after a winter in the stream. The sea trout's prey typically resides in coastal waters, which makes it possible for fishermen to reach the fish from the shore.
Sea trout hunt by sight. It is therefore important that you fish high in the water so that the sea trout can see your bait from below as a dark spot against the light. Another good trick is to pull in slowly and let the bait get as lively as possible once in the water.
During the summer period, sea trout migrate towards deeper and colder water. Therefore, you will need a float ring or a small rubber boat if you want to fish for sea trout during the summer season.
Minimum dimensions and conservation
As with all fish, there are also rules regarding when sea trout can be fished and what its minimum size is.
Your sea trout must have a minimum size of 40 centimeters, and it is protected from November 16 to January 15.
All undersized fish, or fish caught during the conservation period, must be released in the most gentle way possible. There is one exception, however. If the fish is bleeding from the throat or gills, there is a very small chance that the fish will survive the release and it should therefore be killed.
The further in a fish is hooked, the greater the risk of it being damaged when you try to remove the hook. Therefore, if you are not fishing with stainless hooks, one option may be to simply leave the hook in. Cut the line all the way down to the hook and avoid further damage to the fish. The hook will be fairly easily repelled by the fish as it rusts.
