3 questions and answers about powerbait
What is power bait?
Powerbait is, as I said, the preferred bait for put and take fishing among Danes. They are available in colors and scents and can be shaped as desired. Powerbait is a mixed product of bait that dissolves in the water during fishing.
How is powerbait shaped?
Start by rolling a ball of powerbait. You only need enough to cover the hook. Make it oblong and flatten it if necessary – they can be shaped in an infinite number of ways.
Our favorite form of powerbait is the tadpole, the elephant's foot and the twister.
Where can you buy powerbait?
You can of course buy a huge selection of powerbait at Fluer.dk, both online and in our store in Vejle.
The difference between gulp and powerbait
The company Berkley makes powerbait and the brand Gulp. That's why you sometimes hear them mentioned together. However, they are not exactly the same.
For Put and Take, we prefer powerbait. The reason is that the two types of bait are made slightly differently. Where Gulp is water-based, powerbait is oil-based. This makes a big difference in how the two work when they hit the water.
Fragrances
Gulp will start releasing scents the moment the bait hits the water, and in a way start to dissolve. Powerbait will only start releasing scent when they are affected by, for example, a bite. Powerbait will then in turn make the fish not want to give up its bite. The fact that it is oil-based also means something for the durability, and powerbait can be reused several times.
The more times you use your power bait, the more the smell disappears. This is an important part of the bait, because the power bait smell is specifically designed to be exciting for the fish. We therefore carry a variety of different scents:
How to shape powerbait
Fortunately, Powerbait is really easy to work with, and it can almost be compared to modeling clay. Therefore, you can also shape it on the hook, depending on how it should move in the water, and depending on what you are catching.
- You can start by shaping your powerbait into a small ball. The size should be just enough to cover your hook.
- With your fingers or the back of your hand, you can flatten it or give it a tail. You can shape it into pretty much any shape you want. Press it hard just above the hook.
- The most important thing is that it gets a good rotation in the water. So you can shape it like a worm, or a screw shape, or a host of other shapes. Look at how it moves in the water and experiment with it.
Which powerbait is best?
There is a big difference in how fish react to the baits you use. Weather, temperature, season and many other things influence which powerbait is the best.
If you are making the most of your powerbait, you should look at the put and take fish you are trying to catch. Sometimes these fish will be curious, and then you can obviously choose a colorful powerbait. Other times, it gives better results to choose a color that is similar to the food they normally get. Fish also become curious when they detect a strong smell. That is why you can buy powerbait with everything from banana scent to garlic scent from us.

HOW TO FISH WITH POWERBAIT?
When it comes to using powerbait in put and take lakes, the options are many, as you can fish with powerbait in different ways. However, a distinction is usually made between active and passive fishing with powerbait. Whether you prefer one method or the other is an individual matter, although some might argue that active fishing with powerbait is the preferred one.
PASSIVE FISHING WITH POWERBAIT
Passive fishing with powerbait is, as the name suggests, a method where you fish more or less passively from the same place and with the same powerbait. Here you can choose to fish from the bottom up or from the surface down. If the fish swim deep, as they typically do in summer and winter, you can try fishing from the bottom up. This method may be a little difficult for the inexperienced angler, as you are fishing a bit blind. Nevertheless, it can be quite effective. If, on the other hand, you can clearly see the fish, you can fish from the surface down into the water column itself.
If you are going to take the kids out and fish passively with powerbait, you can use a so-called float. Float fishing is a more visual way to fish, as you will be able to clearly see activity in the water around the bait.
ACTIVE FISHING WITH POWERBAIT
Active fishing with powerbait is another popular method. In contrast to passive fishing with powerbait, the aim here is to chase the fish by means of, among other things, spinning and in other ways trying to entice the fish to bite. Here you do not just stand and wait, but instead actively search for the fish by continuously moving from location to location.
In put and take lakes, the fish are most sedentary when the water temperature is low or correspondingly high. Nevertheless, you can easily fish actively with powerbait in both the winter and summer months, as long as you just remember to turn down the spinning speed a little.
For active fishing with powerbait, you can use bombarda fishing, among other things.
