Running liner

A running line is designed to be used with a shooting head. They come in different thicknesses and coatings, and can be either floating or sinking. When choosing a running line, it depends a lot on what you prefer to fish with. Therefore, you can't assume that what works for your partner will also work for you.

Some running lines allow you to keep track of how much line you have out. This is done by making them two-color and changing color every five meters. This will allow you to know exactly how much line you need to cast to reach a fish that you have already made contact with.

Which line type should you choose?

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer, as there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of line.

The nylon shooting line undoubtedly casts the furthest of the two lines. Especially when there is a little wind to help it along. However, the nylon line is very thin to hold between the fingers, which is why some people prefer the coated shooting line.

It can happen that you lose your grip on the thin and smooth nylon line. Imagine a fish tugging at the line on a cold spring morning, and your stiff fingers don't have full feel for the line. Then you might lose a catch, but on the other hand you might not have been able to cast the line as far out with the coated shooting line. So the choice is a matter of taste.

No matter which running line you choose, we always recommend a line basket. It keeps track of your line and allows for a longer, more effortless cast.

If you find that your nylon shooting line is curling or bunching up, it is simply because it is worn out. However, you can remedy this by cutting off the worn out meters, and then you will have a fresh line again.

The coated shooting lines have their clear advantage in being easier to hold. A coated line may take a little of the casting distance, but it gives more control over the cast. The thicker you choose your shooting line, the more durable it is. However, a thick shooting line can be very stiff and can shorten the casting distance.

The choice of running line therefore depends on many different factors and preferences. So try both types of line and find the one that suits you best.
